Ethel Brolls' Romanian Orphans Knitting Appeal
Ethel Brolls is running a knitting appeal in aid of Romanian orphans. She needs your help to make blankets, jumpers, hats, mitts and scarves. With the aid of Blythswood Care, Ethel's Appeal is ongoing nationwide and is in its fifth year.

Christmas Lights
Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, a most successful Bingo Night was held, courtesy of the Machars Lions. A total of £307 was raised to fund a further phase of Christmas decorations.

CARS and Scottish Power progress
The CARS for Whithorn ( Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme) has now been launched, with approximately fifty property owners expressing interest. Meanwhile, progress continues on the Scottish Power grounding of cables.

CABLES AND C.A.R.S.
The Scottish Power project to underground cables in parts of Whithorn is now under way, with contractors, McAlpine, already on site. The whole process will take some months, but we anticipate that the townscape as a whole will benefit hugely from the change.

Business Association AGM
The AGM was held on 17th January, with a lively and informative talk from Nick Clark of the Energy Savings Trust, on saving energy and on carbon-neutral energy sources. Energy audits are available for business and domestic premises.

CARS scheme opens and Scottish Power cables
January promises to be an exciting month, with the architects responsible for administering the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme now appointed. Association members will meet the architects and Council representatives in January to discuss the round of public meetings to follow.

Business Association AGM
The Business Association will hold its AGM on 17th January at 7pm at the Whithorn Trust Visitor Centre. The guest speaker, Nick Clark, from the Energy Savings Trust, will speak on renewables, energy saving and business help. All members and potential members are cordially invited.

Archaeology booklet launched
The Business Association has reissued the "Journey through Time" booklets, originally written by Richard Oram, covering the prehistory and Christian archaeology of mid Galloway.

Grounding of Electricity Cables : November 06
The Association has campaigned for many years for the grounding of unsightly overhead cables in Whithorn. Last year, a victory was scored when Scottish Power Systems agreed to ground cables in George Street and Bruce Street, beginning in November 2006.

Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme update
We have confirmation from Edinburgh that the contract for the Whithorn CARS will be signed off this week and sent to Dumfries and Galloway Council for agreement. This means that householders will soon be receiving news of the important grant scheme.
